History

The Kulu gas toaster/warmer/heat spreader was designed by Mr. Pieter Gert van Rhyn in 1987 as he felt there was a need for a gas toaster which could take up to 4 slices of sandwich bread. At that time he could not purchase a 4-slice gas toaster and found that the only one available was a single slice toaster which was time consuming and uneconomical.

Since its inception in 1987 the Kulu gas toaster has become very popular with caravaners, campers, yachters and those people with 4x4 vehicles due to its durability and compactness, and its ability to toast evenly and quickly. The toaster has virtually become a necessity for those people using gas and not having electricity, although it can also be used in the home if there is LP gas available.

Gert van Rhyn passed away in February, 1995 and the Kulu gas toaster is now manufactured and marketed throughout South Africa by his daughter Michele, and her husband Tony Zaymes.
